1. (a)A vessel not under command shall exhibit two all-round red lights in a vertical line, two balls in a vertical line, and when making way through the water also sidelights and a sternlight.
2. (b)A vessel restricted in her ability to manoeuvre, except one engaged in mine-clearance, shall exhibit three all-round lights in a vertical line, the highest and lowest red and the middle white, or ball-diamond-ball shapes; when making way also masthead lights, sidelights and a sternlight; and when at anchor also anchor lights.
3. (c)A power-driven vessel engaged in a towing operation that severely restricts the tow's ability to deviate shall in addition show the restricted-in-ability lights and shapes.
4. (d)A vessel engaged in dredging or underwater operations, when restricted, shall show the restricted-in-ability lights and shapes and, in addition, two all-round red lights or two balls to indicate the obstructed side and two all-round green lights or two diamonds to indicate the side on which another vessel may pass.
5. (e)A vessel engaged in diving operations which cannot show the dredging signals shall exhibit three all-round lights, red-white-red in a vertical line, and a rigid replica of the International Code flag 'A'.
6. (f)A vessel engaged in mine-clearance shall exhibit, in addition to the lights for a power-driven vessel, three all-round green lights or three balls indicating danger within 1000 metres.
7. (g)Vessels of less than 12 metres, except those engaged in diving, need not exhibit these lights and shapes.
8. (h)These signals are not signals of a vessel in distress.
